Ingredients

  • 4-5 Medium-sized apples (preferably Granny Smith or similar tart apples)
  • 2 tbsp Lemon juice
  • ¾ cup Granulated sugar
  • 2 Large eggs
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp Baking powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • ½ cup Whole milk
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • Ground cinnamon (for dusting, optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch (23 cm) round baking dish or tart pan and set it aside.
  • Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples. Place them in a bowl and toss them with the lemon juice to prevent browning. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the eggs and granulated sugar together until the mixture becomes light and fluffy.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the egg and sugar mixture, alternating with the milk. Start and end with the dry ingredients. Mix until you have a smooth batter.
  • Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish.
  • Arrange the sliced apples on top of the batter in a decorative pattern. You can place them in concentric circles or any design you prefer.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Remove the tart from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes.
  • Once slightly cooled, you can dust the top of the tart with powdered sugar and a sprinkle of ground cinnamon if desired.
  • Serve the Spanish Tarta de Manzana warm or at room temperature. It's delicious on its own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.

Notes

Incorporating jam into your apple tart can add an extra layer of flavor and sweetness. Here's how you can use jam in your apple tart:
  1. Glaze: After baking your apple tart, you can create a glaze by heating jam with a little water or lemon juice until it becomes a smooth, pourable consistency. Brush this glaze over the top of the tart to add shine and a burst of flavor.
  2. Flavor Combinations: Experiment with different jam flavors to complement your apple tart. For instance, a pear jam could pair wonderfully with your apple filling, creating a delightful blend of fruit flavors.
  3. Thinned Jam: Mix the jam with a bit of hot water to create a thin, syrupy consistency. Drizzle this over the finished tart for an elegant and sweet finish.
When using jam in your apple tart, consider the sweetness level of the jam and adjust the amount used according to your taste. It's a versatile ingredient that allows you to get creative with flavors and presentations, so feel free to customize your apple tart to your liking.
